Tim David’s outstanding 68* off 38 balls led the Hobart Hurricanes to a convincing 6-wicket victory over the Sydney Thunder in an exciting match. This was the team’s fifth win of the season, and they now lead the points table by two points. With 19 balls remaining, the Hurricanes overcame the Sydney Thunder’s 164/6 total despite David Warner’s heroic unbroken 88 from 66 balls.
The Hurricanes’ Pursuit Is Off to a Great Start
With some early luck, the Hurricanes got off to a fast start in their pursuit. Mitchell Owen hit Mohammad Hasnain for a boundary and a six after being dropped off the second ball of the innings. In the next over, Matthew Wade hit George Garton for two sixes as he carried on the attack.
However, after both openers were removed quickly, Charlie Wakim and Nikhil Chaudhary went to the crease.
Wakim was dismissed early in the seventh over by Tom Andrews, which had an impact and matched the game evenly. However, Thunder found it challenging to regain the momentum after that.
Tim David Assumes Command
It took David a few overs to get into his groove, but he soon discovered his range. He began the tenth over on a high note by hitting a boundary and a six against Dan Christian.
David persisted in his attack and made sure Thunder had no way back into the match, even though Garton dismissed Chaudhary in the twelfth over.
David hit 21 runs off Hasnain’s next over after hitting Wes Agar for two boundaries and a six in one over.
David helped the Hurricanes surpass Thunder’s total by hitting another six off an Agar delivery that sailed over deep mid-wicket to end the match.
Warner’s Vain Heroism
David Warner had already attempted to keep Thunder in the game with a single hand. Thunder’s other hitters found it challenging to get going while Hurricanes continued to take consistent wickets.
Warner had a problematic start, scoring only one run per delivery for the first 20 deliveries before he eventually got away with a boundary off Peter Htzoglou through cover.
The only other Thunder batter to put up a fight was Sam Billings, who scored a scorching 28 off 15 balls with four boundaries.
Warner increased his speed in the final overs, taking valuable runs from Nathan Ellis and Chris Jordan, but it was insufficient to help Thunder reach a manageable score.
